Epic 5” Cube Pot

Once your seedlings outgrow their starter trays, it’s time to size up. The Epic 5” Cube Pot gives your seedlings the extra space they need to keep growing indoors until it’s warm enough to move them outside. They’re also a great way to extend your indoor grow time even longer, especially if you started a bit too early and your seedlings have outgrown the 3” pot.

Made in the USA from tough, recycled plastic, this pot is built to last and designed to set your plants up for success. Ideal for starting larger vegetables like pumpkins, squash, melons, or cucumbers. Designed for potting up smaller seedlings from our Epic 6-Cell or Epic 4-Cell Trays, you can also grow herbs and smaller veggies directly in it or use it to propagate cuttings..

How & Why to Up-Pot Your Seedlings

1. Once your seedlings have reached a larger, intermediate stage, the Epic 5” Cube Pot will come into play. This is the next step to take once your seedlings have outgrown their cell trays and the 3” pot.
2. Soil wise, you can use a light, porous, well-draining potting mix with a bit of vermiculite and compost in it.
3. Fill your 5” pot with soil, then make a hole big enough to hold the soil that’s already bundled around the roots of your seedling.
4. Make sure the soil in the cell tray is well watered so it doesn’t just crumble apart, that way you can retain the soil around the seedling.
5. You can use your finger to pop the seedling out of its cell tray using the hole in the base. You should never need any external tool to remove a seedling from one of our trays.
6. Once loosened, pop the seedling right down into the hole you made and then press the top soil down using your fingers. Give it a little bit of compression, but not too much. You don’t want to suffocate the roots.
7. This slightly larger transplant pot will give whatever you’re growing more space for root expansion before they’re ready to make the jump to the outside garden.
8. These pots are also great for propagating cuttings from other plants.

Pro-Tip: To keep your Epic Cube Pot in good shape for years of use, we recommend hand-washing with hot, soapy water. Sterilize the trays with a good dish detergent to protect your seedlings.

A: Air pruning happens naturally when roots reach the open air. Since they can't grow without moisture and darkness, roots that make it through the air-pruning slots basically prune themselves, pushing the plant to make a stronger root network inside the pot. This prevents root spiraling and encourages your plant to develop a healthier root system. It's one of the key features of our Epic Pots.
