Product Specs

Our 3” Cube Pot is the perfect size to extend their indoor grow time for just a little bit longer until the weather warms, and you can safely shift them to the garden. They're great for rooting your cuttings in, too!

Once your little seedlings begin to outgrow their starter trays, it’s time to give them a bit more room to spread their roots. Our 3” Cube Pot is the perfect size to extend their indoor grow time for just a little bit longer until the weather warms, and you can safely shift them to the garden. They're great for rooting your cuttings in, too!

Made in the USA from recycled plastic (hooray for less waste), this sturdy pot will be around for years to come and is designed to give your plants the best start. Whether you’re potting up tomatoes, growing your favorite herbs, or moving a batch of veggies along, the Epic 3” Cube Pot is made to help your plants develop strong, healthy roots so they can really thrive.

  • Nursery Must-Have: The perfect size to keep your plants growing strong when they get too big for their starter cell tray.
  • Epic Exclusive Product: Designed & made by the Epic Gardening team, so you know it’s super-high quality.
  • Durable: Injection-molded, UV-resistant construction made to last 10+ years—not that typical flimsy plastic.
  • Integrated Air Pruning Slits: Prevent root spiraling.
  • Internal Ribs: Encourage healthy root development.
  • Raised Base & Feet: For better drainage & happier roots.
  • Perfect For: Potting up tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, as well as larger fruits & veggies, growing herbs in a greenhouse or on your countertop, and propagating.
  • Compatible Products: Fit up to 18 Epic 3” Cube Pots onto our Universal Bottom Trays. Also great for potting up smaller seedlings from our Epic 4-Cell or Epic 6-Cell Trays.

Dimensions of single 3" Pot: 3 ¼ x 3 ¼ x 4 ¼ inches

  1. Once your seedlings have reached that intermediate stage, the Epic 3” Cube Pot will come into play. This is the next step to take once your seedlings start to outgrow their cell trays.
  2. Fill your 3” pot with soil, then make a hole big enough to hold the soil that’s already bundled around the roots of your seedling.
  3. Make sure the soil in the cell tray is moist so it doesn’t just crumble apart; that will help retain the soil around the seedling.
  4. You can use your finger to pop the seedling out of its cell tray using the hole in the base. (You should never need any external tool to remove a seedling from one of our trays.)
  5. Once loosened, set the seedling into the hole you made and add more soil if needed. Lightly press down to secure the seedling in place and ensure there aren't any air pockets hidden under the soil's surface.
  6. This slightly larger transplant pot will give whatever you’re growing more space for root expansion before they’re ready to make the jump to the outside garden.
  7. These pots are also great for propagating cuttings from other plants. Try rooting your own herbs in these, or use the 3" pot as a temporary pot for your grafted tomatoes as the graft joint heals. They're the perfect size for multipurpose use.

Cleaning Your Epic 3" Cube Pots

We recommend hand-washing these with hot, soapy water to keep the pots in good shape for years to come. A good dish detergent should sterilize the pots enough to protect your seedlings.

Q: How long do Epic Pots last?

A: Practically unbreakable, they’re made from durable, injection-molded, recycled plastic and designed to provide a long lifespan of 10+ years. That’s a lot of growing seasons.

Q: Are your pots BPA-free?

A: Yes, they’re made from BPA-free, recycled polypropylene (#5 plastic) and no PFAS are used when we make them. So, safe for your plants and safe for you.

Q: What plants can I use the 3" Cube Pot for?

A: These are perfect for transplanting/up-potting all kinds of plants, from cucumbers and tomatoes to herbs and flowers. They’ll support anything that needs a little more room to grow before it's time to shift them into the garden.

Q: What is air pruning and how does it help?

A: Air pruning happens naturally when roots reach the open air. Since they can't grow without moisture and darkness, roots that make it through the air pruning slots basically prune themselves, pushing the plant to make a stronger root network inside the pot. This prevents root spiraling and encourages your plant to develop a healthier root system. It's one of the key features of our Epic Pots.

Q: Can I stack these pots for storage?

A: Yes, they’re designed that way. The compactness of the Epic 3" Cube Pot makes it easy to stack and store. Whether you're in between seasons or prepping for your next round of seedlings, they won’t take up much space.

Q: What trays can I use the 3" pot with?

A: You can fit up to 18 Epic 3” Cube Pots into our Universal Bottom Trays for a super streamlined growing setup.

Simple Step-By-Step Guide To Starting Seeds At Home

Step 1
Fill Your Epic Trays With Soil
Use a fine-particulate seed starting soil and pre-moisten it before filling the cell trays. Avoid chunky or woody potting blends that may create air pockets next to your planted seeds.
Step 2
Plant Your Seeds
Be sure to follow the sowing depth instructions on your seed packet! Some seeds like to be sown deeply, while others prefer being on or barely under the soil.
Step 3
Cover with Germination Dome
A germination dome helps retain moisture in the soil. You’ll still need to water, but less often. Check regularly to ensure the soil stays evenly damp during germination and plant development.
Step 4
Add Heat and Light
If your seeds prefer warm soil temperatures, use our seedling heat mat to warm the soil. Our grow lights provide ideal lighting for newly germinated plants until it’s time to transplant.
Step 5
Watch Them Grow!
Remove the germination dome when your seedlings are about an inch tall to allow for more airflow.
