FAQ

Q: What’s the difference between Level 1 & 2?

A: Level 1 seeds can be planted straight in their grow bags. Perfect for the gardener who wants the fastest path to green. Level 2 is for those ready to try their hand at seed starting. These seeds begin indoors and are later moved to grow bags. They take a bit more time and care but the results are extra rewarding.

Q: How deep and far apart should I plant my seeds?

A: Each seed packet includes information on plant depth and spacing specific to that seed.

Q: How do I know which seeds are started indoors?

A: The back of each seed packet will tell you which seeds should be started inside.

Q: Which seed starting supplies do I use for my seeds?

A: Start your eggplant seeds in ½ of the 6-cell and your tomato seeds in the other half of the 6-cell, using the dome and tray to help your seedlings grow. When the seedlings get too big for their cells, you will move them into the 5” pots. You will start your basil seeds in the 4-cell.

Q: Why are there different grow bag sizes?

A: Different plants need different amounts of space for roots to thrive. The grow bags in your box were specifically chosen for your seeds’ success.

Q: What is companion planting?

A: Companion planting is pairing plants that help each other grow. We have strategically paired some of your plants to improve flavor, deter pests, and boost growth.

Q: What soil should I use with my grow bag?

We recommend a high-quality potting soil that drains well, holds moisture, and provides nutrients for healthy plant growth. We use FoxFarm Happy Frog Flower and Plant Potting Soil.

Q: What soil should I use for seed starting?

A: Use a seed-starting mix that is light, fine, and well-draining. This helps seeds germinate quickly and gives seedlings a strong start. We use FoxFarm Light Warrior AgroPanic Grow Medium, which is lightweight and ideal for early root development.

Q: Does my box come with everything I need?

A: Your box comes with seeds, containers, a grow guide, and planting map. Just add soil and water.

Q: How long will it take to see growth?

A: Growth depends on the plant but most seeds germinate in 1-3 weeks and are harvest-ready in a few months.

Q: Who is this box for?

A: Anyone! Our boxes are beginner-friendly. No experience required, just a love of Italian flavors.

Q: What are the domes and trays for, and how do I use them?

A: Domes help retain moisture and warmth during germination, creating a mini-greenhouse effect. Trays catch excess water and keep your growing area clean.

Q: When should I plant my seeds?

A: Each seed packet will tell you how long after your last frost date to plant your seeds. Your grow guide includes a QR with instructions on finding your frost date.

Q: How much sunlight do my plants need?

A: Most plants need 6-8 hours of sun a day. Rotate your grow bag every few days for even growth.

Q: How often should I water my plants?

A: Check the soil daily. If the soil feels dry, it’s time to water. You want to keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy.

Q: How do I care for my plants as they grow?

A: Regular care includes watering, monitoring light, checking for pests, and pruning when needed. Refer to your Grow Guide for information on each.
