Product Details

With yellow-tipped, bronze-red petals, 'Shock-O-Lat' is sure to draw attention. Contrasting purple-tinged stems are well-branched, offering a multitude of pollenless blooms for bouquets. Sunflowers are edible, with a bittersweet flavor. The petals add a pretty pop of color ion salads and desserts. The young, sunflower buds are edible, with a flavor similar to artichoke hearts. They can be grilled, marinated, or sauteed for an unusual appetizer or side dish. The 6" flowers can be tamed down to 3" by spacing plants closely (10" apart).

Grew these in a pot and fertilized heavy with a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Great results. I get compliments from all the neighbors !

This is one of the most visually interesting sunflowers I’ve seen, and was super excited for these to finally bloom! They ended up growing to be around 5-6’ tall (I planted them in a small raised bed) and they are perfect for filling in some space between my tomatoes and eggplants. This variety is definitely a new favorite of mine!

So much fun to grow these! Absolutely beautiful. I literally stuck my finger into the soil stuck in a seed, covered with soil and a couple weeks later they started to grow. I never knew growing a flower could bring this much joy ☺️
