Sowing Info

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.

When to Start Inside: Not recommended.

Days to Emerge: 6–12 days

Seed Depth: 1"

Seed Spacing: 1 seeds every 4" to 6"

Row Spacing: 24"

Thinning: Not required

Growing Info

Harvesting: Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod "snaps" or breaks in half cleanly. This is when the seeds have just begun to form and the pods are several inches long (depending on the variety). Hold the stem with one hand, and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches, which will continue to produce. At season's end, plants are great compost material if they are disease-free.

The Royal Burgundy bush beans have grown prolifically with excellent germination and quickly became beautiful producing plants with no issues at all. This is just the first few pu led but many more are developing. Highly recommend. In top three of six varieties tried - Jade, Royal Burgundy and Golden Rush shown in photo.

Almost 100% germination and they seem to love this fall weather. Planted 4 weeks ago and they are over a foot tall and blooming. I have other beans in the bed that seem to be more susceptible, these are healthy and thriving.

These beans sprouted really fast, but they started getting burned (zone 10a). I’m adding some shade cloth to see if they survive the heat here.

I was going to take pics on Saturday because I noticed Friday night that these seeds had already germinated and plants were coming up after planting them just on Tuesday... 3Days.... Wow... however, Friday night we were in a tornado that uprooted and destroyed many of our 250ft East Texas pine trees. Not one tree hit my house, however, I did have one lay across my garden. My garden that I have spent at least 8 hours a day for the last 2 months and spent countless dollars on supplies. Several dozen plants were in this garden and it's a container garden. AMAZINGLY it only damaged about three out of those dozens and dozens of plants (I can't do a complete survey due to power lines still on the ground close to my containers). God had his hand over my place including my chicken pens and my animals. So I didn't take the picture on Saturday but I did take it on Sunday and these are my plants that are only five days post planting. This brand of seeds are the best seeds I have ever planted. Every seed that I have planted has already germinated. I haven't, obviously, haven't had a harvest yet but if these beautiful plants made it through the torrential rain, hail, and tree limbs landing on them, I'm assuming I'll be having some amazing beans in a color I've never tried!
