Product Details

'Rouge Royale' is a stunning, true red sunflower, on multi-branching plants. A dramatic accent in beds, borders, and arrangements. For highest quality cut flowers, planting closer together will produce longer stems and smaller flowers. For long-lasting vase life, cut before flower is completely open. 'Rouge Royale' doesn't drop its pollen making it all beauty and no mess. Sunflowers are edible, with a bittersweet flavor. The petals add a pretty pop of color ion salads and desserts. The young, sunflower buds are edible, with a flavor similar to artichoke hearts. They can be grilled, marinated, or sautéed for an unusual appetizer or side dish. Drought tolerant once established.

Very pretty dark red flowers are striking in the garden. Some branching as well for prolonged beauty. I grow this every year!

I have great success with most of the seed I have gotten from botanical interest. These sunflowers are no exception. However, my flower seems to be much darker. I don't know if something is off in the soil (like hydrangeas need acidic for purple and pinks) or if it will redden as it grows. 🤔 I am container gardening them and wish I had put them in a bigger grow bag. But that was my mistake.

This sunflower is gorgeous! I didn't realize when I bought the seeds that it would be a multi-headed sunflower. I only had about 2 days where all of the blooms at the top of the stem were in full bloom (as seen in the photo), so that particular time is fleeting. However, the main bloom lasted about a week and a half or two weeks. And though in the photo it looks like the blooming is complete... nope. It still has several more blooms on the way lower on the stem! Its the gift that keeps on giving. My flower is approximately 4 and 1/2 feet tall and did well in a 2 foot wide, 1 1/2 foot deep rasied bed. No amendments to the soil needed to get the results you see in the photo. Love it!
