Product Details

Emerald Green Arborvitae is the perfect size for small spaces, providing a tall thick evergreen barrier when several are planted in a row. They are tall and elegant with thick, lush growth in a beautiful emerald green color.

These Thujas are adaptable to many soil conditions and weather, are cold-hardy, and are easy to grow. They make elegant, tall, conical-shaped trees on their own and are beautiful when planted in a row.

As the temperatures drop in autumn and winter, the emerald green foliage becomes green-yellow before turning back in spring.

Emerald Green Arborvitae trees are grown from propagated cuttings and are not grafted.

If creating a dense hedge, space your arborvitae 4 feet apart. Otherwise, space 6+ feet apart for best growth. Dig a hole twice the width and as deep as the root ball. Loosen the roots and plant in the hole, backfilling with the soil as you go and tamping down to remove any air pockets. Water in to settle the plants in and then cover the area at least 4 inches away from the stem with a thick layer of mulch to conserve water and regulate the soil temperature.

Sunlight:

Grow Emerald Green Arborvitae in full sun if possible, however they will also take a bit of shade. They prefer at least 6-8 hours of sun a day with afternoon sun at best.

Watering:

Once established, Emerald Green Arborvitae is perfectly happy with just rainfall and supplemental watering during periods of drought. Until they have become established, water 1-2 times per week.

Mature size:

Emerald Green Arborvitae can reach a height of around 10-15 feet. This size is considered ideal for boundary screening.

Care and Maintenance

Watering: Newly planted trees need regular watering and a proper schedule to get them settled. For the first month, water 1-2 times a week. Every month after that, change it to once a week but more in hot, dry weather. Once established, Arborvitae can often survive on local rainfall, although a weekly watering may continue to be necessary in dry locations.

Fertilizing: In spring, give the trees a good feeding of a balanced fertilizer and water well. Replace the mulch if necessary.

Pruning: Prune in winter or early spring to keep its shape and remove any dead or dying branches. Other than that, it needs no pruning. If pruning as a hedge, ensure it has full sun conditions along all parts of the sides for healthy foliage growth. It may need to be pruned into shape.

Pests and Diseases: Although this variety is fairly pest- and disease-resistant, monitor for fungal issues such as cankering or stem girdling and remove damaged tissue when necessary. Trees in full sun will have less problems.

Recovery Time: Transitioning from our nursery to your home can be a bit of a shock to your plant. A short acclimation period helps it recover and reduces stress.

Climate Adjustment: Every environment is unique. Giving your plant time to adjust to the local climate, humidity, and light conditions in a shady spot will set it up for better growth and health.

How to Acclimate Your Plant: Keep the plant in its container and place it in a shady, sheltered area away from high winds. Ensure it's watered adequately – the soil should be moist but not waterlogged. Monitor the plant for any signs of distress and allow it to adjust for a few days before planting. After a few days of acclimation, your plant will be better prepared to thrive in its new home for years to come.
