Product Details

These majestic plants make a lovely backdrop in the flower garden and a bold statement in flower arrangements. A major crop of the Aztecs, beige seeds follow the dramatic, burgundy plumes in about 105 days; very high in protein and other nutrients. Cook like rice for a side dish or pop like popcorn! Leave the seeds on and watch the birds flock to your yard. Very young leaves are delectable for salads and steaming.

Burgundy Amaranth germinates fast, sometimes in a single week, and is a striking red purple color even as a seedling. I planted several seeds in a 4-inch pot, thinned to about 3 plants per pot, then transplanted single plants into 8-inch pots before planting out. A great plant for children to sprout and grow from seed because of the color and fast growth rate. Every seed I planted grew and I ended up giving several plants to a neighbor, who interplanted them with decorative corn. Looks amazing. I have used the same packet for two years.
