Care and Maintenance

Watering: Water regularly, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Fertilizing: Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring and again in mid-summer.

Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage bushy growth.

Pollination: Bay Laurel is self-fertile, meaning it does not require cross-pollination to produce its aromatic leaves. However, if you are interested in producing seeds, flowers will need to be pollinated. This is typically done by bees and other insects.

Harvesting: Harvest leaves at any time once the plant is well established. Pick individual leaves or snip leafy stems if a larger quantity is desired. Fresh leaves can be used immediately, or they can be dried for longer storage.

Planting Care

Watering: Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil around the roots.

    Love this little tree!

The bay laurel arrived quickly and in great shape. There were clear instructions for how to acclimate it and it didn’t have any issues. I am just letting it grow and get settled but have already used a few leaves for cooking. I have already started acclimatizing it to the indoors at it get very cold here in the mountains of NH.

    Hey Michael A.,

What a fantastic review! We're absolutely thrilled to hear that your Bay Laurel arrived quickly and in perfect condition - there's nothing better than getting a healthy little tree that's ready to thrive right from the start!

Your experience with the acclimation process is so encouraging to hear! Those clear instructions really make all the difference when you're getting a new tree settled into its environment, and it sounds like your bay laurel handled the transition beautifully. The fact that you're already harvesting those aromatic leaves for cooking is just perfect - there's something so satisfying about using herbs from your own tree!

We love that you're being so thoughtful about gradually acclimating it for indoor growing as those New Hampshire mountain winters approach! That's such smart planning, and bay laurel trees actually adapt wonderfully to indoor life when transitioned properly. You're going to have fresh bay leaves for all your cooking throughout those cold months, which is such a luxury that most gardeners can only dream of.

Your patient approach of letting it grow and get settled while still enjoying those first harvests really shows what excellent plant care looks like. That little tree is going to reward your careful attention with years of beautiful growth and delicious leaves for your kitchen!

Your success story will be so helpful for other gardeners in cold climates who want to grow their own bay laurel!

    Keep on growing 🌻️
