What the Kit includes:

  • 12 Pack- Epic 6-Cell Seed Starting Trays
  • 8 Pack - Epic 4-Cell Seed Starting Trays, 4”
  • 2 Pack - Epic 1020 Universal Bottom Tray

This seed starting bundle is a complete kit designed to help beginners or experienced gardeners start their seeds before transplanting them to their garden or outdoor space. Our 6-Cell and 4 Cell Seed Starting Trays are built with the ease of gardening in mind. The large finger holes at the bottom make it easy to remove plants without tools—just push them out with your finger! The durability of our seed starting trays is unmatched. All are rigid, yet flexible and practically unbreakable, meant to last the rest of your life. That means no flimsy starter pots and trays that don’t last more than one or two seasons.

The Bottom Tray makes watering easier by allowing you to water from the bottom, keeping things clean and simple when starting seeds indoors. Each 1020 UBT holds up to 12 6-Cell or 8 4-Cell starter trays, with the option to have combinations of both within one UBT.

What the Kit includes:

  • 12 Pack- Epic 6-Cell Seed Starting Trays
  • 8 Pack - Epic 4-Cell Seed Starting Trays, 4”

How To Use

Step 1: Prepare the Soil

  • Fill the 6-cell or 4-cell tray with seed starting mix. Lightly water the soil so it’s moist but not soaked.

  • Gently press the soil down with your finger to remove any gaps, then refill if needed.

Step 2: Plant the Seeds

  • Make a small hole in the soil using your finger or a pencil (about twice the size of the seed).

  • Drop the seed in and cover it lightly with soil. Some seeds need light to germinate, so if the seed packet says this, don’t cover the seeds.

Step 3: Water the Seeds

  • Give the seeds a light layer misting of water, just enough to moisten the top layer.

  • Cover the tray with a plastic wrap or dome to keep humidity in. Poke a few holes in the plastic for ventilation.

Step 4: Find the Right Spot

  • Place your tray on a sunny windowsill or under a grow light depending on what your seed needs. Keep the soil moist as the seeds start to sprout.

  • Once you see the sprouts, remove the plastic or dome.

Step 5: Care for Your Seedlings

  • When the seedlings grow, trim off any extra ones, keeping the strongest plant in each cell. As the seedlings begin to grow, you will want to keep the strongest plant in each cell. To do so, trim off any extras that are growing within each cell.

  • Keep watering the soil from the bottom by adding water to the outer tray so the soil absorbs it without splashing on the plants.

Step 6: Transplanting

  • When your plants are about 3-4 inches tall, carefully push them out of the tray using the large finger holes, and transplant them into your garden or bigger pots.

Helpful Tips:

  • Soil Choice: Use a lightweight, seed-starting mix like peat or coco coir and vermiculite. Avoid heavy mixes or ones with fertilizer.

  • Watering: Water from the bottom and avoid soaking the soil. You can use the condensation on the dome as a guide—more condensation means more moisture.

  • Light: As soon as seedlings sprout, place them under a grow light for 16 hours a day, 4-6 inches above the plants.

  • Transplant Time: Most seedlings are ready to be transplanted after about 4 weeks.

Cleaning Your Epic Starter Cells

We recommend hand-washing with hot, soapy water as the best way to keep the material in good shape for years of use. A good dish detergent should sterilize the trays enough to protect seedlings.

Why You'll Love It

Engineered for Healthier Plant Growth

Better Roots, Better Plants

Each cell in the Epic 6-Cell or 4-Cell Tray has open corners and bottoms that allow air to naturally prune the roots, preventing them from circling and helping them grow stronger. This leads to healthier plants when it’s time to transplant them.

Designed for You, the Gardener

These trays are easy to use and fit perfectly into a larger system. With large finger holes at the bottom, it’s easy to remove plants without tools—just push them out with your finger!

Boost Your Seedling Success

The Germination Dome helps create the perfect environment for your seeds, by boosting heat and humidity. If your plants are growing slowly because of cool temperatures, using the dome can speed up their growth, especially in greenhouses.

Built to Last

Made in the USA from recycled, BPA-free, food-grade plastic, they’re durable and safe for growing your plants. Our Germination Domes and Bottom Trays are made from thick, durable PVC plastic that can handle high temperatures and sunlight, giving you many years of use without cracking.
