Thuja Green Giant
View More Planting Info
If planting in a row as a screen, plant one every 5-6 feet to form a dense hedge. Individual trees will grow 30-50 feet tall without pruning to keep them compact. For each tree, dig a hole three times the width of the root ball and just as deep. Plant the tree and backfill with the same soil, pressing it down to remove air pockets as you go. Water it in well and add a good layer of mulch, keeping a gap between the mulch layer and the tree's trunk.

Care and Maintenance
Watering: When initially planted, water every other day to ensure the tree has ready access to moisture. Gradually taper off watering to once a week after a month or two. Once established, these may not need to be watered except during periods of drought.
Fertilizing: Feed in spring with a balanced fertilizer made specifically for evergreen trees and shrubs.
Pruning: Thuja Green Giant can be pruned to keep them compact and at a specific height if used for a neat border plant. The plants will be dense and green all year, and pruning should be done annually after the last frost to keep their form. Make symmetrical cuts at a 45° angle. If not grouped as a border, the trees do not need pruning at all.
Pests and Diseases: Unlike other conifers, Thuja Green Giant is not prone to bagworm damage or deer problems. However, avoid conditions that cause plant stress such as prolonged drought.
Recovery Time: Transitioning from our nursery to your home can be a bit of a shock to your plant. A short acclimation period helps it recover and reduces stress.
Climate Adjustment: Every environment is unique. Giving your plant time to adjust to the local climate, humidity, and light conditions in a shady spot will set it up for better growth and health.
How to Acclimate Your Plant: Keep the plant in its container and place it in a shady, sheltered area away from high winds. Ensure it's watered adequately – the soil should be moist but not waterlogged. Monitor the plant for any signs of distress and allow it to adjust for a few days before planting. After a few days of acclimation, your plant will be better prepared to thrive in its new home for years to come.
