There's multiple amazing things about this book. 1, the pictures, there's always a picture to match a step in instructions. 2, the creative steps to urban gardening I would have never known about. I have a relatively small space and my mind is blowing about how many things I can grow! It's taking all the restraint to take it one step at a time. Thanks Kevin!

We are spending around $30K to do an Epic Gardening renovation of our back yard. We call it the "Plum Tree Project." We will have 8 8-in-1 raised beds plus 2 (24") raised beds. Why are we doing this and going to so much expense and involving so many "hands" in my backyard?
(1) God said to do it; (2) I want to supply food to my extended family of 9 (one of which is the former Mayor of Fresno); and (3) I want to be a discrete provider of food to a very poor neighborhood 500 yards from my front door.
Members of the "Yo Ville" project, a University of CA and a Fresno County/City project plus Fresno State College of Horticulture are giving advice and helping with the "Plum Tree Project."
We are working feverishly to make as much hay while the sun shines in order to rescue people who are swallowed up by food insecurity in the Central CA neighborhood of "Pinedale."
We all LOVE Kevin Espiritu and follow him closely via You Tube day and night.
We want Kevin to come to Fresno when the "Plum Tree Project" is up and running and producing food.
This week we brought in 12 cubic yards of "mix" for raised beds from E&J Gallo Wine in Fresno for the 10 new, fruit trees and and all the raised beds.
Tomorrow, now that the hole have been drilled through the hard pan, we are planting the trees! Yeaaa!
Next week we install irrigation in all the beds and load the raised beds with sandy clay from the giant holes and the raised bed mix from Gallo Wine.
I'm making video's of each step we take toward completion of the Project.
What I'm doing here can be duplicated throughout the Country provided they are in the right temperature zone. That's what I want Kevin to do: Share the simplicity of turning a 1/2 acre lot into an amazing urban garden!!!!

I am really excited for this season. I have been following Kevin on YouTube. I am going to spend some time reading about the hydroponics in his book and learn more about growing indoors. Maybe by the fall, I can grow indoor kale. I love the idea about growing microgreen.
Thank you for signing my book.
Stephany S.
I love the Channel and love the book. Very informative and encouraging! We started out with one raised bed a few years ago and have expanded to 5 raised beds, many pots and in ground this year with many different edibles for canning and storing. Home grown tastes so much better and is so satisfying on so many levels.

Really nice book for those with a small area for container gardening. Even if you have a larger garden, this book still gives some nice ideas to add decorative potted features to it; especially for Companion Plants that repel /attract insects, such as butterflies and bees.
Thomas C.
I bought this as a gift to my brother. He loves it, he read half way through it the first day. I will be buying your other book for him.

I have found that Kevin is very knowledgable, and personable, in all the medias he uses to help us develop a greener thumb. His book is filled with both practical and creative approaches for today’s gardener. I have become a subscriber to both his youtube channel and his podcast, and I recommend this book whole heartedly. Keep on growing Kevin!

Lots of great info related to small space gardening. Book takes you through the steps you should think about depending on your space. Good bonus are the pictures that can help you visualize and give you inspiration for your own space.

Great garden reference, full of useful information!

The book has a lot of great information. I'm just starting out with a balcony garden that doesn't have great exposure, but I'm sure I can figure out something to do with this book and more advice from Kevin's channel. Thank you very much!
Cliff M.
It will be a great resource to ad to my library! It will sit right next to Mel's Square Foot Gardening book.
Teresa B.
I love this book!!Thank you so much for teaching first starters who have always wanted to start our own gardens and grow our own food on our own land!!!!
Sally S.
I was inspired by Eric and his raised beds. While my husband was in Alaska last August, I created my own raised bed oasis using livestock troughs with drilled drainage holes. I filled them half way using hugelkultur and then the rest of the way using the Square Foot Garden recipe of soil that Eric recommended. This is my second planting season and I am learning so much from Eric and Urban Gardening. I am so grateful for all that this garden, which I call, "A Little Patch of Earth" for so many reasons...last October, I had to close my business due to COVID and growing food elevated my despair into passion for the power and awe of mother nature, mindful eating and seeking better health through whole food. Curious neighbors marvel over the front yard garden and stop to chat and talk plants and take transplants for their own beginner gardens! Almost one year later, we have come to recognize the elements of goodness that this pandemic has strangely welcomed in the midst of so much sadness. This winter, neighbors generously contributed stapled goods to A Little Patch of Earth food drive . Along with my gardens fresh produce, I was able to prepare fresh soups, salads and stir-fry to a few unsheltered folks at our local train station a few times each week throughout the winter! THANK YOU for your loving guidance and knowledge, Eric! Your passion is infectious!

I love the amount of pictures this book has. The information is great!

Great book for my urban gardening.
Carol R.
This book is full of ideas for all types of non-traditional gardens. I have a fenced patio and found several ways to expand my garden options. It's also a very informative read about gardens, plants, containers, etc. I intend to give it as Christmas gifts this year.
Melanie A.
As with Kevin’s prior book, this is beautifully and clearly written with absolutely gorgeous photographs.
Jacquelyn B.
The book is a lot more in depth than I imagined. It starts off with just the soil, and some of the science behind each type of soil and how to make the best of it. I'm definitely enjoying reading and learning the more technical side of gardening. I have a natural green thumb, so it kind of comes easy for me overall, but me as a person loves to know why this and why that. Kevin does a great job at translating these things onto page.
CLARISSE C.
I read it in two nights, this is how easy and nice it is to read. I keep it as a guide for so many things in the yard: what to plant where, how to do things, like building a raised bed. It is very visual, comes with pictures and graphics and quickly gives you an overview of your possibilities if you start growing vegetables in your yard.
Judith N.
Loved the book! You not only explain everything perfectly but you added photos so you are able to make your own garden or gardens. I got the book and while waiting for my Birdies Bed to get here I started with container gardens, and grow bags. I already had my raised bed garden in the works. Now that the Birdies Bed is here we are working on it now as you can see my Hügelkultur pile next to it! My family is coming over to help put the Birdies Bed together! Thanks for all the help your book and YouTube videos have given me! Judy

I love this book. It is a feast for the eyes and full of practical and inspiring ideas for any kind of gardening situation. The pictures are beautiful. I read it in two days and will refer to it often. Whether you are new to gardening or an old hand--this book will delight you. Thank you Kevin!

Received this lovely informative book as a gift for purchasing four Birdie Garden Beds. Great information and scientific. Looking forward to starting my first urban garden after this CRAZY year in medicine. Thank you Mr. Espiritu.

I received this book as a gift and it's absolutely beautiful. Tons of information in the same easy to understand manner as his youtube videos and lots of beautiful pictures for inspiration. Definitely a great book for new gardeners.

The information in this book is exceptionally helpful and extremely interesting! I love the multi-faceted approach to each various grow method, and the explanations of soil health, plant needs, and problem solving is most valuable to gardeners like me. Thank you very much and I'm looking forward to your spreadsheet and container gardening book!

Design egineer here, used to be cold as a rock, until COVID-19 pandemic changed the world and I started to rethink my life while confined at home.
I never really had plants in my life because i always thought my green thumb was.. well... do I have thumbs?
I ended up buying a Calibrachoa at Home Depot just because it was beautiful, when I arrived home I started looking for some videos on YouTube to learn how not to kill it in 2 hours (yes, my thumb was that bad) and I accidentally found one of Kevin's videos.
I instantly fell in love with the way Kevin makes the videos, super well edited, nice and elegant soundtrack, entertaining even for somebody that never cared about plants.
It made me curious, i have a small balcony that had absolutely nothing more than a barbecue grill and an old chair that I can't remember I sat for more than 30 seconds in it during the last five years. I rushed to Amazon and ordered a Keter planter that I liked the design.
Back to the videos to learn how to start my first and small herb garden (I love to cook).
The herb garden worked very well thanks to what I learned. It was just like a drug addiction, the more I watched, the more I wanted. I ended up marathoning Kevin's videos and I quickly started seeing the results. I fell in love with Kevin (in a good way) I started to notice how what I was learning with him and this new "addiction" was causing several improvements in my life. And it was a snowball, I ordered the book and I was so excited that I read it in one day, then repeated twice, then started "studying" it, taking notes, making experiments and seeing the results. My ugly balcony turned into a beautiful garden, actually almost a jungle with all crops growing beautifully thanks to Kevin's generosity to share his knowledge. I also noticed improvements in my life and health. Gardening made.me more human, less stressed and when I started harvesting beautiful vegetables, it not only made me stop buying industrialized junk, but also changed my feeding habits, I lost weight, I was visibly healthier, it made me even look younger! It reached a point that friends started to make comments about the positive changes in my life. One of my friends even asked me if I had a "lifting" plastic surgery or Botox because I am literally looking 10 years younger now just because I'm eating healthier and living life in a less mathematical way and being more in touch with Mother Nature.
Kevin and his book changed my life forever, I will never be the horrible person I was before reading his book and learning how to have a green thumb.
I wish I could have Kevin coming to Los Angeles to give me some consulting I even tried to add him to Facebook but he never replied. I'm sure its because he has absolutely no time,, working so hard to help people from all over the world. Ihave so much space around my house, I'm sure he would be able to optimize every inch to have much more.
The solution for me, well, keep watching and loving every single video he posts on his two YouTube channels and waiting patiently for the next book, that I am more than sure it will be as spectacular as the first book.
I infinitely recommend Kevin's book, it is merely the very best book I've ever read in my whole life.
Lisa L.
A really great all in one. Not at all overwhelming. Great book !!!!

Hey Kevin! As we are just a few days from resuming our incredible fall weather and tempertures in South Eastern Arizona, I have started a few veggies and things (seeds) in the soil mixes you suggested. I managed to get some Cukeamelons (sp) and some gerkin sized cucumbers. Growing here is tough... I live in a gated community with a pretty strict HOA, but have a Green Stalk Vertical system I'm itching to set up and plant. I've been looking at the raised Birdee systems that you offer too. Our season is usually between October thru April- early May, and we can have frost warnings in December and January. Anxious to get some "patio tomatoes going too. I'm nuts about anything you do, and all the incredible youtube vids... a real addict! I could be your biggest fan if not "Groupie", I'd follow you anywhere. Thanks for being such a tremendous inspiration, the book I ordered is totally awesome! I'll be watching, and always try to "keep on growing". The very best to you, Kevin, Daniel (Dan) Jones, Eloy, Arizona.
Amanda S.
This is a great quick reference book to pick up whenever I need to adjust my techniques or double check things. I now have a modest balcony herb and veg garden going and can troubleshoot most issues before they turn deadly.
Brandi C.
Awesome book! Very helpful images and ideas for the beginning gardener :)
Mariko R.
Field Guide to Urban Gardening is an excellent resource to get you started with gardening in any urban living space. Not only is this book a great read, but there are lots of colorful photos to stimulate your creativity. I was very inspired to expand my current indoor garden setup with new LED lights and plants. My condo only has north-facing windows, so the lighting is extremely poor for growing plants. I've attached a couple of LED lights underneath metallic Metro shelves. Plants are happy. I highly recommend this book!

I'm the granddaughter of depression era grandparents and the daughter of WWII parents. We grew Victory Gardens so I have been gardening for a long time, but Kevin's book has helped me become a better gardener. I love that the chapters are color coded so it makes it easier to find what I'm looking for. The chapter on raised beds alone is worth the whole book to me. I'm excited about Birdies raised beds, because the 30" height and not having to bend and stoop is very appealing. My Birdies beds won't be here till mid to late September so I am learning to use grow bags, shout out to Boot Strap Farmer, I love the bright colors.
If you are a long time gardener, get this book, you can learn new or more efficient ways. If you are new to gardening, get this book. If you are lucky to have some land or a yard, get this book. Do you live in an apartment? Get this book! If you can just grow tomatoes, lettuce and some herbs, that's a win. So lets all grow Epic Gardens, large or small, let's learn and teach together.
Karie T.
Loved every word of this book! Purchased with the thought I’d use it as a reference, ended up reading the entire thing Cover to cover! Well written, interesting and a ton if background info, tips, and project ideas! 100% recommended!
Laura M.
This book has a great balance between pictures and words. I'm a visual/hands-on learner so whenever I run across a gardening book with a lot of color pictures, I'm stoked! (I feel strange saying that as I'm way too old...) And if you haven't checked out Kevin's other Epic Gardening social media accounts, do it! He is not hard to look at and he gives valuable and do-able information. Also, regarding the photo that hopefully is attached to this review...can someone please buy and assemble that greenhouse for me???
Rosangela D.
After trying my hands at gardening 3 times, with the tips Epic G. gives, I feel more confident for 4th trial. I will let you know.
Tim O.
Utilizing both this book and the advice from the Epic Gardening Youtube channel, my garden has greatly expanded and produces far more than it ever did. The tips, especially those involving container gardening, soil types, and Microgreens, were very informative and the images help the reader visually understand certain tips and tricks. Prior to the information I learned herein and from the channel, my garden was very unproductive.
This book gives the gardener a solid foundation to start from and you will keep learning something every time you read this book. While there are certain tips for particular locations, but everything is useful and you can apply the concepts contained within the book to your situation. This is a truly well written book and a great resource to have in your home.
Megan P.
Kevin, my husband, Barry, and I have gone back to it multiple times for tips, suggestions and just plain “how-to’s”. Our raised garden was amazing this summer, peppers and tomatoes. Thank you!!!
Regina "Gina" B.
It’s such a beautiful book with high quality photos on high gloss paper. It’s easy to read with so many levels of step by step instructions. Plan to use it often in my suburban grow bag gardens. Thank you Kevin!!
Bernadette M.
Just one more useful, valuable tool from Epic Gardening! Straightforward, easy to understand & implement ideas, compliments the info on the Epic Gardening videos. We have learned as much, if not more from Kevin than from our master gardener classes. Thank you, Kevin!
Daisy A.
It's an awesome book. I learned so much. It is easy to understand and follow the instructions. It's show the differents ways to gardening even if you live in an appartment like me.
I recommend it!

This book covers all the basics for a new home gardener! Nearly all questions I had were answered by flipping through the book. There are so many options for different kinds of homes and gardening spaces. Lots of gardening 101 tips as well as nifty tips and tricks to make the gardening experience so much better!
Julieanne B.
This book has motivated me in so many ways! The information is great and it has my garden flourishing!

Needing to learn more about hydroponics. Kevin got me going down the right path. Thanks for sharing all that valuable gardening knowledge!
Nicole H.
I've always liked to cook and the last couple of years I've been trying (and failing) to get into gardening with some container herbs. I discovered Epic Gardening during the Pandemic on YouTube and I am amazed at how much I have been able to learn and so I bought the book too. Kevin's book is a must have for all gardeners but particularly for beginners such as myself. It is well thought out, detailed and he has incorporated many beautiful and helpful photos throughout. If you enjoy learning through multiple modalities (like me) I also suggest checking out Kevin's blog, website, podcast and Youtube channels. I now have a combination of herb and ornamentals in my tiny little container garden and am cultivating a green thumb. As an Essential Employee working in Mental Health during this time, Epic Gardening has been a wonderful, therapeutic outlet. Thanks Kevin! I'll be looking forward to that book on grow bags next year. :)
Edgar C.
Amazing content! Learning so much ❤️
Andrew M.
So glad I ordered Kevin's book. Jam packed with great, easy to understand guidance! I'm waiting for his next book!

Fantastic book! Easy to understand.
The beautiful pictures help you comprehend and follow all the steps.
Kevin does a wonderful job teaching us, plant lovers, how to grow food anywhere, even with very little space.
John C.
Once I got my copy I couldn't put it down. This book is packed with insightful information and awesome visuals showcasing the epic essentials on getting started with gardening. I've enjoyed it all the way through and have put what I've learned into my backyard. It's been a blast getting inspired, understanding the art of gardening, and putting this field guide to practice. Definitely recommend!
Bethany A.
I loved the book and it happened to come on a rough day for me which was perfect! ❤️ I can’t wait to apply the tools I’ve learned and see how my garden grows!
Amanda A.
Love it! Perfect ideas and reading to expand my urban garden. I also plan on bringing some of these ideas into my classroom.
Patty G.
First of all it is personalized and second it has great information that I have been trying to gather to use while I start experimenting with gardening. I am excited and looking forward to my tomatoes!
Aiyana P.
The book came on time and I was able to track it all the way. I did not know it was going to be signed, so when I opened it up and saw my name and a thank you, I was so happy. I find a lot of the information helpful especially since it covers the major topics of growing in easier and sustainable ways for even beginners. It is a good reference book for both myself and other growers who come to our rooftop farm.
I love watching and learning from you and other YouTubers/ gardeners on how to maximize and improve my space. I wish everyone a plentiful season this year!
Sue C.
Working on gutter systems for side yard strawberries. Unable to do anything this year do to non availability of the plant. Hope to us some of the drip line advice to set up the raise beds next year too.
Book is a great review on items I have already studied. Really showcases a lot of options. His writing is great. So I am looking forward to the new studies and go back through his You Tube to find specifics. Definitely a keeper for my library.
