Growing Info
Harvesting: Jewel Amethyst' should be harvested when the fruit is 3"–4 ½" long and the skin is still shiny. If you are in doubt about maturity level, note that it’s better to harvest eggplants a little young rather than wait until they are overly mature with dull skin, eventually possibly turning a golden color, with plentiful seeds, and bitter taste. To harvest, cut the stem with pruners. Continual harvest will encourage more production.
Special Care: In areas where cool soil is a concern, growing eggplant in dark-colored containers or using black plastic mulch will warms the soil. The best method of watering when using plastic mulch is drip irrigation, or a soaker hose underneath the plastic.

I grew these from seed they are not Jewel Amethyst; every single one of my plants are growing white eggplants? . I want to know what variety I have so I can at least market it to my customers. Usually the darker the color of a fruit or veggie the more nutritious it is…not sure what that says about these. Honestly, they’re kinda off-putting visually they look like duck eggs. I’m little frustrated because we grew a lot of these to be able to put on our pizza night on the farm woodfired pizzas and this isn’t helping the visual appeal for what people are about to eat.

Bought these seeds while in Houston and planted for late summer in far west Texas. Seeds germinated very quickly and seedlings have grown rapidly, but a friend who has grown eggplants for years said, "those don't look like any eggplants I've ever grown." This is my first time to grow eggplant, so I came here to check the reviews, and after reading about white eggplants, I'm wondering if there was a seed mix-up? Any update on what is going on with these seeds? I'm really curious as to what I might end up with.

Beautiful plants. But they are bearing white fruits. I don’t know if the seeds got mixed up or the genetics are messed up. But disappointing when you wait from seed to harvest and not find the fruit you were looking for.

The packet says to sow these very early indoors, but they grow quickly and you could easily wait another month or more to start them. The fruits on both of my plants are white and not amethyst. Great compact plant, but some improvements are needed.

The plant itself is great with wonderful germination and heavy loads of fruit on a 2-3 foot plant. However the fruits are all white. Not sure what variety it is but would think Japanese Egg Eggplant.
