We love 'Max's Gold' zucchini because of its beautiful color outside, and flavorful, firm squash inside. Long, straight fruits have a small seed cavity, meaning there's more delicious squash to eat. It's ideal for grilling, snacking on fresh, or adding to salads. Harvest frequently so that plants continue to produce throughout the summer months.

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is 70°–85°F.
When to Start Inside: Not recommended except in very short growing seasons, 2 to 4 weeks before transplanting. Roots are sensitive to disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots that can be planted directly into the ground. Transplant when soil temperature is at least 60°F.

Growing Info
Harvesting: Harvest frequently to increase yield; squash seem to get monstrous overnight. While edible at almost any size, seeds are less developed in young fruit, therefore more tender. Using a knife or clippers, cut squash off including some of the stem. By including stem, the fruit is sealed and less likely to mold or dry out. Harvesting Blossoms: Look for male, non-fruit producing flowers that have long stems and harvest just before use (female flowers have a swollen mini-squash at the base of the flower and are on shorter stems).

This is the most delicious summer squash I’ve ever eaten! Started seeds indoors early May (zone 5b NH), every seed germinated & transplanted well into the garden beds 2nd week in June, harvested the first squash 4th of July weekend. Not only does it taste great, it grows fast & keeps giving flawless, bright golden, magazine worthy fruit. The leaves aren’t thorny like other varieties & I’m amazed by how well it’s stood up against the great SVB battle of 2026! My only regret is that I didn’t grow more!

Max’s gold is a beautiful, rich yellow squash. The skin is firm and a dark golden yellow. The pic shows comparison of the rich yellow on the right to the store bought on the left. Taste delicious and keeps producing.

This is the only zucchini I'll grow. I've grown it for years. It's very productive and the yellow fruit are so much easier to find than the green ones. It is now October 15, 2023 and I'm still getting zucchinis, although that is unusually late.

This is my second year growing Max's Gold. Last year I didn't have much success and the other 2 zucchini varieties I grew outperformed it. This year however, Max's Gold is my best performer! Beautiful plants with lots of smooth, yellow fruits. It's supposed to have some powdery mildew resistance, so I'm looking forward to see how the rest of the growing season goes.
