Product Details

This treasured, heirloom wildflower, native to the eastern U.S., is a long-lived perennial that blooms for a month or more beginning in midsummer. The pinkish-purple petals of the stunning, daisy-like flowers surround a large, dark brown cone. Petals begin to droop as the cone enlarges and fills with seeds, which attract birds in the fall and winter. Echinacea grows well in a variety of conditions, and is excellent for borders and water-wise gardens. Perfect for fresh cut flowers.

    Excellent germination

I purchased coneflower seeds from Botanical Interest and a competitor brand. The seeds from Botanical Interest outperformed and had a higher germination rate. I started my seeds indoors using a heat mat and a growing light. I also cold stratified the seeds in my fridge for 7 days. The seeds started germinating after 5 days. I have 42 coneflower seedlings growing now. I highly recommend this company. I will purchase another packet and experiment growing the seeds without stratifying them.

    Hey Diana,

You're seedlings look great! We're thrilled to hear our Purple Coneflower Echinacea Seeds outperformed the competition with such excellent germination rates! Your setup sounds perfect - the heat mat, growing light, and cold stratification clearly paid off with those amazing results. 42 seedlings is incredible! We love that you're planning to experiment with another packet without stratification - it's always fun to compare different growing methods. Thank you for choosing us and for sharing this wonderful comparison and your growing expertise with us. Keep on growing 🌻️

Cold stratified seeds from February-March, seeded in trays in April 2023 and planted out in garden in June. The plants just grew their basal leaves the first year, and started really taking off summer of 2024. It’s now the end of August and they are HUGE and really taking off! The pollinators absolutely adore them and they really are low maintenance handling severe heat, draught, and high desert conditions beautifully. Thanks BI for the great seed!

Seedlings grew very well in a pot in July. I lost a few seedlings early in the growth cycle due to insects and squirrels, but the remaining are hardy. I will be transplanting these soon!
