Product Details

Nothing beats the taste of a fresh Honeycrisp™ Apple, especially when picked straight from the garden.

One of the most widely grown apple varieties, Honeycrisp™ is appreciated for its perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, along with the crisp crunch that gives it its name. The versatile fruits are suitable for eating fresh or baking, with a firm texture fit for your favorite apple pie recipe.

Honeycrisp™ Apple Trees have a long growing season, producing a mountain of fruits for continuous harvesting. The apples also store well, allowing you to enjoy the fruits of your labor long after the season has ended. Beyond the fruit, this tree offers beautiful blossoms in spring and vibrant foliage in fall.

All apple varieties are grafted on M7 apple stock, a common dwarf type.

As this tree’s mature height is around 10 feet, plant at least 10 feet away from other trees or nearby structures in a location with full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring it's straight, and backfill with soil, tamping down gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots. Apply a layer of mulch around 3-4 inches thick around the base of the tree after planting.

Sunlight:

Plant in full sun, providing at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Fertilizing:

Feed in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote strong growth and fruiting.

Pruning:

Honeycrisp™ trees require moderate pruning in late winter to maintain shape and improve growth.

Care and Maintenance

Watering: Water your apple tree regularly, providing around two inches of water per week. Watering frequency will depend on your climate and the position of the tree. Young trees need weekly watering to establish strong roots, while established trees require less frequent but deeper watering.

Fertilizing: Begin fertilizing annually in the second or third year of growth. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer before new growth appears. Apply fertilizer at the drip line. Then increase the diameter as the drip line grows. Add two additional cups each year.

Pruning: Prune in late winter when the tree is dormant, removing dead, crossing, or underperforming branches. Shape the tree and remove lower hanging branches to maintain a strong structure capable of holding the weight of the fruits.

Pests and Diseases: The trees are resistant to apple scab and fire blight, but are susceptible to fungal problems like powdery mildew, flyspeck, and sooty blotch. Look out for apple maggots and codling moths.

Pollination: Honeycrisp™ Apple Trees require cross-pollination from a different apple variety that blooms at the same time. Plant within 50 feet of another compatible variety for best fruit set. Or purchase the Apple Orchard, which includes Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Honeycrisp trees. Granny Smith Fuji Gala

Harvesting: Apples are ready to harvest in September or October, depending on climate. Harvest when the fruits are fully colored and the flesh is firm. They should be easy to pull off the tree when ripe.

Recovery Time: Transitioning from our nursery to your home can be a bit of a shock to your plant. A short acclimation period helps it recover and reduces stress.

Climate Adjustment: Every environment is unique. Giving your plant time to adjust to the local climate, humidity, and light conditions in a shady spot will set it up for better growth and health.

How to Acclimate Your Plant: Keep the plant in its container and place it in a shady, sheltered area away from high winds. Ensure it's watered adequately – the soil should be moist but not waterlogged. Monitor the plant for any signs of distress and allow it to adjust for a few days before planting. After a few days of acclimation, your plant will be better prepared to thrive in its new home for years to come.
