These Brazilian peppers are tangy, sweet, and smokey with a touch of heat. Biquinho (bee-KEE-nyo) means "little beak" in Portuguese; it is also known as button, piquillo, or chupetinha pepper. Green peppers ripen to red (red -colored seeds) or yellow (natural-colored seeds) and are traditionally pickled and served as appetizers or a drink garnish. A unique pepper that all can enjoy. 1,000–2,000 Scoville heat units (mild).

They were so plentiful and cute

I had four plants, this picture is just one harvest from two of the plants, (ignore the other peppers). Each plant made SO many peppers throughout the summer, I'm in zone 6b. They also tasted great and were easy to use, I will be planting these every year from now on.

    Fair Germination so far.

Fair germination. I only planted four seeds (two of each color), and one of each color sprouted. They were on the edge of my tray, and I think the failed seeds dried out. I will try again. I'm excited to try these adorable peppers.

    Love These Peppers!

I started these under lights indoors last spring. The seed germinated well. The little plants were decorative from the beginning. As they grew, I transplanted them to individual 3" square pots. When warmer weather came, I transplanted three reds and three yellows to individual three-gallon pots, which I set against a south-facing wall. I live in a cold climate that peppers generally hate. However, these did well, blooming and bearing fruit. Now (early October) I'm harvesting plenty of them to pickle and can in half-pint jars. I'd grow them just for the pretty plants, even if they weren't edible. My husband calls them "Being Cute" peppers. Recommended.

    Hey Nancy M.,

Thank you so much for this fantastic 5-star review! We absolutely love hearing about your incredible success with Red and Yellow Blend Biquinho Chile Peppers - and "Being Cute" peppers is honestly the most adorable nickname we've ever heard! Your husband definitely nailed it because these little beauties really are just irresistibly charming from seedling to harvest.

It sounds like you created the perfect growing setup with your indoor starting system and those three-gallon pots against that south-facing wall. The fact that you got such great germination and then watched them thrive even in a cold climate that peppers usually struggle with just shows how adaptable and determined these little Biquinhos can be!

We love that you're already harvesting plenty for pickling and canning in half-pint jars - there's something so satisfying about preserving your own homegrown pepper harvest, especially when they're as flavorful and unique as Biquinhos. And your point about growing them just for their ornamental value is so true - they really are like having edible jewelry in the garden!

Your growing success in challenging conditions will be so inspiring for other gardeners who might think their climate is too tough for peppers. You've proven that with the right setup and care, these adorable "Being Cute" peppers can thrive almost anywhere!

    Keep on growing 🌻️

    Don't bother

It took 2 months for about 30% of the seeds to germinate and they are so slow growing that now in mid September they still haven't blossomed in full sun 6-8 hours per day and watered daily. Buy the picked peppers and plant something worth the effort.
