When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 45°F, ideally 60°–85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 3 weeks until 10 to 12 weeks before your average first fall frost date. In very warm climates, carrots are grown primarily in fall, winter, and spring.

When to Start Inside: Not recommended; root disturbance stunts growth.

Days to Emerge: 10–25 days

Seed Spacing: 1"

Row Spacing: 6"

Thinning: When 1" tall, thin to 1 every 3"

Growing Info

Harvesting: For best flavor and texture, harvest carrots any time before, and until they reach their optimal size. Peak harvest period lasts about 3 weeks, longer in the fall. Late summer-sown carrots are sweetened after having been kissed by light frost; however, harvest before soil freezes, which may destroy the crop. In USDA zone 5 or warmer, carrots can be left in the ground for storage provided they are heavily mulched; harvest as needed on days the ground is not frozen.

    Great flavor, great harvest

Loved these carrots, grew them at the perfect time 2 years ago, much too late last year, and will be trying again with a larger patch this year with some raised beds. Would always recommend this variety!

Everyone told me that carrots were hard to grow. These carrots were easy to grow! We are in North Alabama and they did very well. I planted some seeds I bought at Lowe’s (very little production)and the BI seeds at the same time. The Bi seeds produced so many carrots that we canned 12 quarts, shared with family and friends, and enjoyed fresh. This was our first canning experience also! We are beyond hooked on gardening!! These are performing so well! I planted out in March and already harvested in late may! They are getting huge under the soil! I'm succession harvesting now and having great germination rates. Will definitely buy again!

These pictures are from my first season growing these. My husband and I had never eaten fresh grown carrots before, and he remarked how tasty they were compared to store bought carrots. I got a great harvest, and here's me holding up a picture-perfect bunch next to my carrot-bunch kitchen towel ;)

These carrots grew well and had good flavor. Carrots are finicky so I made seed tape and planted them that way-worked like a charm!
