    Good germination with extended soaking

I soaked mine for a 3-4 days making sure they still were firm each day. Put them in a closed take out container with seed mix, they all germinated. Some were quicker than others. I have them potted up and they will go outside soon.

Such a pretty and fun plant

This plant is very fun to grow. It stayed very small for a month and I thought it might not do well but then it shot up the trellis almost overnight. I have two vines that put out at least 20 new flowers a day so I harvest daily to keep it producing. The flowers dry very quickly and so far I've made a blue butterfly gin for cocktails and have used the dried flowers as pretty garnishes on things. I've made some nice herbal teas and it looks so beautiful in a dried tea blend with chamomile. Lastly, whatever flowers are left over, I give to my daughter and she has lots of fun mixing them with water and adding lemon or apple cider vinegar to see the color change from midnight blue to a beautiful purple color. It makes for an easy science lesson about ph balance.

    Hey Jessica,

Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience with our Blue Tea Butterfly Pea Seeds! We absolutely love how you've discovered so many creative uses for these gorgeous flowers - from that blue butterfly gin for cocktails to using them as beautiful garnishes and in herbal tea blends with chamomile.

It sounds like you really know how to maximize your harvest with that daily picking strategy to keep those prolific vines producing! Twenty new flowers a day from two vines is incredible!

And what a brilliant way to turn your leftover flowers into a fun science lesson for your daughter! The pH color-changing magic from midnight blue to purple with lemon or vinegar never gets old - it's such a perfect way to get kids excited about both gardening and learning.

We're so glad these little beauties took off for you after that slow start. Sometimes they just need a bit of time to get established before they really take off up that trellis!

    Keep on growing 🌻️

Nail clippers worked like a charm!

I saw a comment that suggested using nail clippers to score the seed...best tip ever! Much easier than sand paper or a knife. Mine are soaking now, plant tomorrow...very excited to see how they do.

Already emerging 4 days after sowing

I sowed ~30 seeds, after soaking for several hours in warm water. I did try to score them, but the hull was just too hard so soaking only for me. It's only been four days, and already out of those 30, 11 have emerged (They are mass sown in an old lettuce container, over a heat mat and with a little LED grow light). These have a long germination so I'm sure more and more will pop up within the next two weeks, but so far I'm very happy with the germination rate and can't wait to direct sow the rest come late spring for a continuous harvest of the flowers (and seed save some pods for next year!)
