Also known as agastache, lavender hyssop, and licorice mint, this heirloom is loved by hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. With a minty, anise/licorice flavor, it is as useful in the kitchen as it is beautiful. The leaves and flowers make a refreshing, fruity tea, and can be added to salads. The lavender-blue flower spikes are lovely in fresh floral arrangements or dried bouquets. Perennial in USDA zones 4-8. Fairly drought tolerant once established.

    Perfect!

I winter sowed these in a milk jug in January and they were one of the earliest to germinate among all my seeds! Nearly every seed sprouted and by March they were busting at the seams to be let loose. They have a wonderful licorice scent even before blooming. Very pleased.

    Hey Katherine,

We're absolutely thrilled to hear your Anise Hyssop Seeds performed so well with your winter sowing method! It sounds like you really hit the jackpot with that germination rate - there's nothing quite like seeing nearly every seed sprout and take off like that. We love that you could already enjoy that wonderful licorice scent even before the blooms appeared! Your milk jug setup must have been perfect for getting these little beauties off to such a strong start. Thanks for sharing your fantastic experience with winter sowing these seeds! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Easy to grow

I started some indoors and some using the winter sowing method and both germinated well. The plants grew beautifully and produced flowers for months and the pollinators loved them! And they smell amazing. Adding more next year!

    Flowering all Summer

I germinated inside and transplanted into the middle of my 4x4 raised bed in May (zone 7b). They started flowering in mid June, and grew to take up the whole 4x4 bed. The bumblebees, honey bees, butterflies loved them. And now, at the end of the season, the goldfinches are flying in and eating the seeds? I will try transplanting these to my new flower garden for next season. Definitely a keeper.

    Hey Leslie,

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience with our Anise Hyssop Seeds! We absolutely love hearing that these bloomed continuously from mid-June all the way through the end of the season - that kind of long-lasting performance is exactly what makes this variety so special! It sounds like they really thrived in your zone 7b raised bed and gave you the most amazing pollinator show with all those bumblebees, honey bees, and butterflies visiting throughout the summer. And how wonderful that the goldfinches are now enjoying the seeds at the end of the season - it's like getting a bonus wildlife show! The fact that they grew to fill your entire 4x4 bed shows just how vigorous and productive these plants can be when they're happy. We're so thrilled to hear you're planning to transplant them to your new flower garden next year - they're definitely going to be stunning there too! Keep on growing 🌻️

    Lovely, tall anise hyssop flowers

I started these indoors months ago and transplanted them outdoors about May. No issues with germination whatsoever. I live in western Washington, zone 8B. I maybe should have planted more and closer together, but they are finally blooming in mid- to late July and are really pretty. I’d like to grow more next year if these don’t propagate and spread. They are tall and floppy over without a support. Very pretty lavender flower spikes loved by the bees and butterflies. 🦋🐝

Zone 5b. I attempted to winter sow some Anise Hyssop seeds, but they didn't do well after transplanting. I direct sowed some more seeds, and they took off after a slow start. The butterflies and bees love these flowers!
