When to Sow Outside: 2 to 4 weeks after your average last frost date, when soil temperature is at least 70°F, ideally 80°‒90°F, and when outside night air temperature is above 60°F.
When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 10 to 12 weeks before your average last frost date. Transplant outdoors 1 to 2 weeks after last frost, when soil temperature is at least 60°F, and outside night air temperature is above 60°F.

Growing Info
Harvesting: Jewel Amethyst' should be harvested when the fruit is 3"–4 ½" long and the skin is still shiny. If you are in doubt about maturity level, note that it’s better to harvest eggplants a little young rather than wait until they are overly mature with dull skin, eventually possibly turning a golden color, with plentiful seeds, and bitter taste. To harvest, cut the stem with pruners. Continual harvest will encourage more production.
Special Care: In areas where cool soil is a concern, growing eggplant in dark-colored containers or using black plastic mulch will warms the soil. The best method of watering when using plastic mulch is drip irrigation, or a soaker hose underneath the plastic.

I came looking for more info after the 4 plants I started from seed all are producing white eggplants rather than purple and it seems like it may have been a common issue this year. I have the seed packet with the lot number still and was wondering if there was any more information on what caused this whether just a seed mix up or cross pollination issue with something like jewel ivory. Luckily I also have 4 other plants of different varieties from other seed suppliers and they are all true to variety, but it's been a bit disappointing expecting one variety and it not being what I ordered. I'm zone 6B and they grew well here so no complaints there, just wasn't what I ordered and thought I was growing

I’ve not had great success growing eggplant before. I liked the fact that the Jewel Amethyst was described as being of compact growth, productive, and tender. We risked using 2025’s BI seeds in ‘26; they germinated fairly well, and we grew 5 plants for our new raised bed garden. The plants have been beautiful and prolific. The fruits have been tender and flavorful in our sautés, omelettes, and soups. Jewel Amethyst Eggplant will now be a regular in our garden!

I'm also part of the group that received small white eggplants instead of purple, but I find them so cute and charming that I kind of prefer them. All seeds germinated and I've harvested several eggplants already.

I love the look of these plants but after reading others that have grown them I am wondering if you have a cross-pollination issue. My fruits are also coming in white and I got on the website to see if they would turn purple once they ripened. The blooms are purple so was quite surprised that the still young fruits are white.
