Product Details

Drop Dead Red is drop dead gorgeous! This is a fabulous mix of large (4"–5"), long-lasting, florist-quality flowers. 'Moulin Rouge', 'Red Wave', 'Ruby Eclipse', and 'Joker' come in several shades of red from deep burgundy and steamy valentine red, to autumnal pumpkin/orange-red, and bicolors. These tall, branching plants are ideal for the back of the garden, or as a border. Sunflowers are edible, with a bittersweet flavor. The petals add a pretty pop of color ion salads and desserts. The young, sunflower buds are edible, with a flavor similar to artichoke hearts. They can be grilled, marinated, or sauteed for an unusual appetizer or side dish. Plant only 10" apart to produce longer stems. As a pollenless hybrid, there'll be no more messy pollen drop from your gorgeous cut flower arrangements, but still plenty of nectar for pollinators. Drought tolerant, but best flower production with regular water.

    My Biggest Success

These guys grew to be the tallest, most abundant flowers in my garden! I direct sowed them into my garden bed in late May (I reside in NJ), I followed the package planting instructions. Only hurdle I had to overcome was keeping rabbits away from eating the leaves (which they did, and surprisingly the flowers were able to stay alive and continue to grow), I ended up making my own DIY cayenne spray to keep the rabbits away, which seemed to work.

    Hey Kelsey,

We're so happy to hear that your Drop Dead Red Sunflowers have been your biggest garden success! Growing to be the tallest, most abundant flowers in your garden is seriously impressive - that's exactly the kind of performance we love to see! And it's awesome that even after dealing with those hungry rabbits, your flowers were resilient enough to keep thriving and growing. Your DIY cayenne spray solution is pretty clever too. Thanks so much for being part of the growing community! Keep on growing 🌻

Beautiful sunflowers! Some start off with a dark color and eventually will lighten up. The flowers attract a lot of honey bees, American gold finches, and humming birds.

First time growing this variety. So beautiful and will be lovely in summer bridal bouquets.

I started a few indoors in early spring and direct sowed the rest.
