Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.

Growing Info
Harvesting: Snap beans are ready to pick when the pod “snaps” or breaks in half cleanly. This is when seeds have just begun to form and the pods are several inches long (depending on the variety). Hold stem with one hand and the pod with the other hand to avoid pulling off branches, which will continue to produce. Harvesting early and often will stimulate flower production for more beans. At season’s end, plants are great compost material if they are disease-free.
Special Care: Rotate bean (and others in the Fabaceae family) growing location so they are not grown in the same area more than once every 3 years. Bush beans can also be grown in containers but may need to be fertilized if the growing medium lacks nutrients.

I bought them for the color (obviously) along with the fact that they're a great pole bean. But dear sweet gentle reader, they are so much more than that. They are a feast to the eyes as well as the tastebuds. Never have I had such good harvests. I swear I'm picking 1lb every day off the plants in my garden. Slightly meatier than say a kentucky wonder, but still delicious. And my god does the discriptor "vigorous climber" apply well. These suckers got over 10ft long before last frost and were STILL producing. They attract everything from bees, to butterflies, to hummingbirds every year I plant them. It turns the yard into an entire ghibli movie by the end of July and I love it.
The only downside? The purple does cook out. BUT! You will still get the joy of looking at the gorgeous blooms, vines, and beans long before the color truly fades.

My pole bean teepee has been my favorite addition to my garden this year. These purple majesties are just gorgeous on the vine and so fun to snap apart to see the vibrant green interior contrasted against the deep purple outer skin. They're prolific if you pick often too which is a nice bang for the buck.
