BIrdies Aluzinc Steel Raised Garden Beds

Birdies Beds: Aluzinc Steel & Sustainability

Birdies beds are the cream of the crop among other metal raised beds. We at Epic Gardening exist to help you grow, and we’ve chosen Birdies with that express purpose in mind.

Why would you join millions of people who grow in Birdies beds? These beds are durable, safe, and sustainable, made of cold-rolled Aluzinc steel. They offer a pleasing aesthetic to gardens all over the world.

What is Aluzinc?

Birdies raised beds are made of cold-rolled steel, with an innovative coating formed from 55% aluminum, 43.3% zinc and 1.6% silicon. The composition of this coating makes the steel astoundingly more resistant to corrosion than standard galvanized metals.

How Is Aluzinc Made?

In the manufacturing process, steel panels are dipped into a bath of molten zinc. As this layer dries, a protective coating forms. This offers the bed reinforcement at seven times the thickness when compared to other galvanized steel beds. The panels are then cold rolled and covered with a food-safe powder coating.

As the beds age, the zinc coating breaks down rather than the steel, providing durability you can rely on for decades. That means no rust. Zinc is a micronutrient that plants need.

This natural process may emit trace amounts of zinc in your soil benefiting its overall composition. Zinc ensures your plants produce efficiently and abundantly through carbohydrate, chlorophyll, and protein formation.

What About Food Safety?

Food Grown in Steel Raised Garden BedFortunately, when you buy a Birdies bed, the sourcing and toxin screening is already taken care of, thanks to the specialty aluzinc steel and USDA-approved, food-safe paint, you can count on. These beds are also constructed with stainless steel hardware, so the parts won’t rust or corrode over time.

Are They Sustainable?

Not only do you have a garden bed that will last decades, its metal parts are completely recyclable when you’re finished using them. It all starts at the Birdies factory, which is based in the Gold Coast and runs with the assistance of a 30KW solar system.

Surplus energy is exported into the grid when it’s not being used. And all Birdies steel offcuts are recycled and turned back into steel products after manufacturing is complete.

Standard metal raised beds don’t last as long as gardeners need them to. But Birdies Last for 20+ years. Other metal raised beds become degraded and rusted over time. These beds, however, are very low maintenance, needing only an occasional surface cleaning.
