What the Kit includes:

  • 1 Epic 1020 Universal Bottom Tray
  • 12 Pack - Epic 6-Cell Seed Starting Trays
  • Epic Seed Starting Grow Lights Standard

This seed starting bundle is a complete kit designed to help beginners or experienced gardeners start their seeds before transplanting them to their garden or outdoor space.

About Our Seed Starting Essentials:

Our 6-Cell Seed Starting Tray was built with both the ease of gardening in mind. The large finger holes at the bottom of our Seed Starting Trays make it easy to remove plants without tools—just push them out with your finger! In addition, their durability is unmatched. All are rigid, yet flexible and practically unbreakable, meant to last the rest of your life. That means no flimsy starter pots and trays that don’t last more than one or two seasons.

The Bottom Tray makes watering easier by allowing you to water from the bottom, keeping things clean and simple when starting seeds indoors. Each 1020 UBT holds up to 12 6-Cell starter trays.

A grow light is also included to get you a head start on the season, and sow your plants in a controlled environment where they develop strong stems and supple leaves. It ensures you have the right level of light to support your tomato, pepper, and eggplant seedlings as they grow indoors.

Step 1: Prepare the Soil

  • Fill the 6-cell tray with seed starting mix. Lightly water the soil so it’s moist but not soaked.
  • Gently press the soil down with your finger to remove any gaps, then refill if needed.

Step 2: Plant the Seeds

  • Make a small hole in the soil using your finger or a pencil (about twice the size of the seed).
  • Drop the seed in and cover it lightly with soil. Some seeds need light to germinate, so if the seed packet says this, don’t cover the seeds.

Step 3: Water the Seeds

  • Give the seeds a light layer misting of water, just enough to moisten the top layer.
  • Cover the tray with a plastic wrap or dome to keep humidity in. Poke a few holes in the plastic for ventilation.

Step 4: Find the Right Spot

  • Place your tray on a sunny windowsill or under a grow light depending on what your seed needs. Keep the soil moist as the seeds start to sprout.
  • Once you see the sprouts, remove the plastic or dome.

Use our grow light to give your seeds and seedlings all the light they need. Whether its in your garage or on your kitchen counter you have the ability to provide the lighting environment that your seeds need to grow healthy and strong.

Step 5: Care for Your Seedlings

  • When the seedlings grow, trim off any extra ones, keeping the strongest plant in each cell. As the seedlings begin to grow, you will want to keep the strongest plant in each cell. To do so, trim off any extras that are growing within each cell.
  • Keep watering the soil from the bottom by adding water to the outer tray so the soil absorbs it without splashing on the plants.

Step 6: Transplanting

  • When your plants are about 3-4 inches tall, carefully push them out of the tray using the large finger holes, and transplant them into your garden or bigger pots.

Helpful Tips:

  • Soil Choice: Use a lightweight, seed-starting mix like peat or coco coir and vermiculite. Avoid heavy mixes or ones with fertilizer.
  • Watering: Water from the bottom and avoid soaking the soil. You can use the condensation on the dome as a guide—more condensation means more moisture.
  • Light: As soon as seedlings sprout, place them under a grow light for 16 hours a day, 4-6 inches above the plants.
  • Transplant Time: Most seedlings are ready to be transplanted after about 4 weeks.

Cleaning Your Epic Starter Cells

We recommend hand-washing with hot, soapy water as the best way to keep the material in good shape for years of use. A good dish detergent should sterilize the trays enough to protect seedlings.

Simple Step-By-Step Guide To Starting Seeds At Home

Step 1

Use a fine-particulate seed starting soil and pre-moisten it before filling the cell trays. Avoid chunky or woody potting blends that may create air pockets next to your planted seeds.

Step 2

Be sure to follow the sowing depth instructions on your seed packet! Some seeds like to be sown deeply, while others prefer being on or barely under the soil.

Step 3

A germination dome helps retain moisture in the soil. You’ll still need to water, but less often. Check regularly to ensure the soil stays evenly damp during germination and plant development.

Step 4

If your seeds prefer warm soil temperatures, use our seedling heat mat to warm the soil. Our grow lights provide ideal lighting for newly germinated plants until it’s time to transplant.

Step 5

Remove the germination dome when your seedlings are about an inch tall to allow for more airflow.

    Game Changer

I have had other grow light fails for years. First season, out of the gate, I have already seeded over 200 plant starts and they ate already growing beautifully! I found this website so organically; been watching you guys for years on YouTube, bought your seeds in Sprouts because of how pretty the drawings were without knowing they belonged to you. Googled grow lights and my search brought me here right back to Epic Gardening again. Three times is a charm they say and you guys are the luck of the irish!. It's 100 degrees now and too hot to start certain tender babies. This saved my grow season and they are on sale and in stock! Rushing to buy three more and don't forget the dome lids. I used some from another set and still got amazing results. They seeded in 2 FRICKING DAYS. What in the Marvel Universe is going on? Eric is lowkey Dr. Strange over there...lol. Keep crafting the magic for us and thank you!
