Product Details

Blue Lake FM-1K is an heirloom variety that produces vigorous, 5' to 8' vines and heavy yields of 5" to 7" long, silvery-green snap beans. Bred to be resistant to the common bean mosaic virus and a big producer, this variety's bountiful harvest makes it an outstanding production pole bean.

Sow Outside

RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 65°F, ideally 70°F-85°F. Successive Sowings: Every 7 to 14 days up to 80 days before your average first fall frost date. NOTE: In very hot summer areas, skip sowing as high heat approaches; temperatures consistently above 90°F will prevent beans from forming.

Organic + Non-GMO

Our Non-GMO + Organic seeds are not only free from genetic modification but are also grown and processed according to strict organic standards. This means they are cultivated without synthetic chemicals, using natural methods that promote soil health, biodiversity, and sustainable farming practices.

    Easy to Grow; Great Yield

Novice gardener, 1st time growing green beans, & 1st gardening season at our new living location. My hope was to grow anything. These did great! Easy to grow, great yield even in the humid, Southeastern NC heat. I'm still learning when to harvest, so please don't judge the photo--just so happy for my progress!

    Hey Heather R.,

What a fantastic review and congratulations on your first green bean success! We're absolutely thrilled to hear that your Blue Lake FM-1K Pole Beans delivered such great yields as your first bean-growing experience - that's such an exciting milestone!

Your success as a novice gardener really highlights what makes Blue Lake FM-1K such a perfect choice for beginners! The fact that these beans thrived in that humid Southeastern NC heat shows what resilient performers they really are. There's something so satisfying about choosing a variety that can handle challenging growing conditions while still being forgiving enough for new gardeners to achieve real success.

We love that you called out the easy-to-grow nature and great yield! Blue Lake FM-1K pole beans are bred to be reliable producers that deliver consistent results, and it sounds like yours are doing exactly what they should. The fact that you're getting excellent harvests even while you're still learning the ropes shows just how rewarding this variety can be.

Don't worry about still learning when to harvest - that's all part of the gardening journey! Every experienced gardener started exactly where you are now, and the fact that you're getting great yields means you're doing so many things right already. Blue Lake beans are pretty forgiving when it comes to harvest timing, so you've got room to experiment and figure out your preferred size and tenderness.

Your enthusiasm about your progress is absolutely wonderful! There's nothing quite like that feeling of success when you're starting your gardening adventure, especially in a new location where you're learning how everything grows in your specific conditions.

Your experience will be so encouraging for other new gardeners who want to try growing their own green beans but aren't sure where to start!

    Keep on growing 🌻️
