Sowing Info

When to Sow Outside: RECOMMENDED. 1 to 2 weeks after your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 60°F, ideally 70°–90°F.

When to Start Inside: 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date. Cucumbers are sensitive to root disturbance; sow in biodegradable pots.

Days to Emerge: 5–10 days

Seed Depth: ½"

Seed Spacing: A group of 2 seeds every 12"

Growing Info

Harvesting: Pick, and pick some more! Overly mature cucumbers on the vine will slow production of new cucumbers. Cut the stem rather than pulling at the fruit, as stems are fragile. To increase the quality and storage time, once picked, immediately immerse in cold water to disperse "field heat".

    Great Surprise

I had these seeds for 2 years before I planted them. I don’t typically like slicer cukes but do like snacking and pickling types. Texas 8a, finally decided to give these a try heading into the fall season. I prepared a trellis for them because for some reason I thought they would have a huge vine. I didn’t realize they were compact which to my surprise is absolutely perfect for my little garden. They are blooming profusely and the bumblebees are loving them. I am picking them young and are so crunchy. I didn’t think I would even like them before I planted and they have been my favorites out of 5 varieties this year!

Perfect plants for my patio container garden! Produced delicious cucumbers all summer. I planted 2 and 1 did better than the other, but I suspect that was a soil quality issue rather than anything to do with the seeds.

These cucumber plants are growing so fast! I probably put too many in the container, so we’ll see what happens. I direct sowed in zone 10a. It’s getting super hot here, so I may have to add something to give them shade.

Having these were a challenge - from being picky on where it wanted to grow to being infested with never-ending pest invasion. On top of that, my cucumber plant suffered from powdery mildew in the middle of a hot summer! I managed to save just 1 cucumber that tasted divine. It's a shame I had to discard the whole plant, although it produced several tiny cucumbers. The pest and the mildew took control of the whole situation.
