Growing Info

Harvesting: Shelling peas should be harvested when the pods are plump, about 3 weeks after flowering. Peas that are too mature are tough and will cause the plant to stop producing; therefore, harvest regularly when pods are at their peak. Use scissors to harvest or hold vine with one hand and pick the pods with the other; vines are fragile.

Green Arrow is my favorite shell pea. I grow them every year, save some for seed and keep growing year after year. Here in NW AZ at an elevation of 3750 ft we get cool enough at night where the Spring crop often lasts into June before our intense heat does them in. They make a good Fall planting too. It's December 13, 2024, and my Green Arrow peas, planted in early October, are flowering. I have them in raised beds with tall hoop houses covered with Agribond 19 and they are thriving.

We planted hundreds of these seeds but only about 12 plants grew. They were all about a foot tall and only produced 5-7 pods on each plant, with 3-5 peas per pod. Very sad production BUT the peas we did get were amazing - super sweet and juicy. We loved them but they didn't produce enough to try growing again.
