    Updated Picture

Here is an updated picture of our bountiful blooms against the backdrop of the Great Smoky Mountains. We love how these Aster blooms have improved our view this year!

REFERENCE: This is North Carolina, Zone 7b, at 3300' elevation. The plants were started from seed in this small planter in May, and this picture is August 30th.

    Nice addition

These Aster seeds produced a beautiful batch of blooms in August, about 5 months after planting in my deck planter. Super easy maintenance, heat tolerant in zone 7b. They did need to be propped up because they tend to be top heavy, especially after blooming!

This was my first time growing asters. I was pleasantly surprised by their cheerful beauty. I sewed 2 seeds in a milk jug and both came up. I happily got one pink and one purple but didn’t think about getting a picture of the purple as they bloomed the following week while we were on vacation. I transplanted them into pots but this year I will put them straight in the ground as my pots were too short to support their height and bushiness forcing me to prop the pots up against things. They use a bit of water so I think in the ground they will be happier. But even with the water and support struggle they performed extremely well. I’m looking forward to planting them again this year.

I had a packet of these aster seeds in my refrigerator for two years. I planted them even though the seeds were "expired" and they came up and were hardy, everblooming and colorful. A must buy.
