When to Use

  • Use to enhance soil prior to planting

  • Established Plants: Twice per month May through August

Soil Preparation:

  • Tomato beds: Apply 3 lbs./1.4 kgs (9 cups/2.1 L) of Tomato-tone per 50 sq. ft. (4.6 sq m) and work into the top 4 to 6 inches (10.1 to 15.2 cm) of soil.
  • Single plants: Mix 3 tablespoons (44.4 mL) of Tomato-tone into the soil when planting.
  • For Potted Plants: 2 cups (.5 L) of Tomato-tone per cubic foot of soil (1.5  tbsp./22.2 mL of Tomato-tone for every 1 qt./.9 L of soil).

  • Rows : 1 cup each side per 5 feet of row. Or .2 L each side per 1.5 m of row.
  • Single Plants : 3 tablespoons (44.4 mL) per plant.
  • Potted Plants: Apply 1.5 teaspoons (22.2 mL) per 4″ (10.1 cm) of pot diameter (1.5 tablespoon per 12 inch pot diameter/22.2 mL per 30.5cm pot diameter).

Application Method

  • Apply in a narrow band around single plants or along each side of a row. Keep Tomato-tone at least 3″ (7.6 cm) from stem.

Q: Should I water my plants or garden bed after applying Tomato Tone?

A: Yes. Water your plants thoroughly after each application. When feeding lawns, it’s best to apply just before it rains.

Q: I noticed a white fuzzy mold after applying Garden Tone. What is it and will it hurt my plants?

A: The Tone plant foods are blends of natural & organic ingredients. When these materials break down under certain conditions, the result can be a mold-like growth on the soil surface. The growth is harmless and is evidence of the organics beginning the process of nutrient release. Simply turn it over with a shovel or fork if you find this growth unsightly.

Q: Can the Garden Tone stay on the foliage of my plants?

A: Plant food should not be allowed to stay on plant foliage. If this occurs simply water to rinse the material from the foliage into the soil or brush it away with a broom.
