Product Details

These soil blocking trays are the perfect pairing with our soil blocker!

Their completely-smooth surface is ideal for creating a perfectly-balanced soil block -- an important element to ensure consistent and even water absorption and to reduce settling. A conventional 1020 tray has deep grooves in its surface that can cause a soil block to deform or settle, making it hard to transfer to another tray later. With this tray, you'll be able to make perfectly-shaped soil blocks every single time and not have to worry that they will tip or collapse.

Made in the USA from lightweight, high-impact fiberglass with reinforced edges, this tray will last for years to come. Its shallow depth ensures that you can bottom water without drowning your seedling plants. Even better, they are dishwasher-safe and easy to keep clean and sterile!

How to use?

Use:

To use your soil blocking tray, simply place your filled soil blocker on top, eject the soil blocks, and plant your seeds!

These trays are just deep enough to ensure you don't flood your seedlings but can bottom-water with ease. We do encourage that you consider keeping your soil blocks in a smooth tray like this until you can see young roots at the edges of the block, as that will reduce the likelihood of the soil block deforming or settling into the watering grooves of a standard 1020 tray. These trays also enable consistent and even water access to all of the soil block. If you need to start a large batch of seedlings, use this tray for blocking, then transfer the blocks by hand to one of our Universal Bottom Trays and make another batch!

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Cleaning these fiberglass trays is simple. First, rinse off any loose soil. The trays are dishwasher-safe using a standard dishwasher detergent, or you can hand-wash with warm water and dishwashing detergent. Use a non-scratch scouring pad or a soft-bristled brush for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleansers like Comet or Ajax, and do not use metal scouring pads, as these can scratch up the surface of your tray.

Some soil blends may stain the fiberglass surface over time. If your tray becomes stained, use a product like Lime-Away or Soft Scrub Liquid Gel with Bleach and a soft-bristled brush (plastic or natural fiber; do not use metal scrubbers) or non-scratch scouring pad. Scour in a circular motion until the stain lifts, then rinse clean. Please note that if you're using composted coffee grounds or other common materials that stain in your soil blend, this may not completely eliminate the stain, but the majority should come off.

After cleaning, allow your trays to dry before stacking for storage.
